KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 270,902 tonnes of cargo comprising 228,310 tonnes of import cargo and 42,592 tonnes of export cargo including 3,176 loaded and empty containers during the last 48 hours ending at 0700 hours on Monday.

The total import cargo of 228,310 tonnes comprised of 49,716 tonnes of containerised cargo; 72 tonnes of general cargo; 68,217 tonnes of bulk cargo: 59,474 tonnes of coal; 8,743 tonnes of fertilizer and 110,305 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 42,592 tonnes comprised of 39,862 tonnes of containerised cargo; 210 tonnes of general cargo and 2,520 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 3,176 containers comprising of 1,105 containers import and 2,071 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Monday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 659 of 20’s and 176 of 40’s loaded while nil of 20’s and 47 of 40’s empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 683 of 20’s and 275 of 40’s loaded containers while 336 of 20’s and 251 of 40’s empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were eight ships namely Xin Nan Tong, YM Express, Hyundai Freedom, Fowairet, Blue Sun, BW Lioness, Formosa Falcon and Onyx Ace carrying containers, oil tankers and vehicle respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were ten vessels viz. X-Press Euphrates, Hanjin White, Kota Kasturi, MT Karachi, Sunrise Eco, Oriental Jasmine, Singapore Bulker, Star Globe, Bright Hope and Onyx Ace carrying containers, oil tankers, coal, fertilizer and vehicle respectively currently at the berths.

There were four ships namely Hanjin White, Kota Kasturi, MT Karachi and Stolt Pondo carrying containers and oil tankers respectively sailed out to sea on Monday while two ships namely Sunrise Eco and Star Globe carrying oil tanker and coal respectively are expected to sail on Tuesday.

There were four vessels viz. Hansa Neuburg, ACX Diamond, HS Marco Polo and Kiran Istanbul carrying containers and steel respectively due to arrive on Monday while four vessels viz. APL Coral, Oriental Sakura, Zealand Almera and Pacific Dream carrying containers, oil tanker, coal and steel respectively are due to arrive on Tuesday.
