RECORDER REPORT

PESHAWAR: Close Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) at the Torkham border were re-installed on Friday. The CCTV Cameras were damaged during week-long skirmishes on Pakistan borders with Afghanistan.

Ghuncha Gul, an official in Torkham administration said that as many as 65 CCTV cameras were installed at different points at the Pak-Afghan border Torkham, aimed at keeping close surveillance of all movements on the border. However, he said in the recent conflict between the border security forces of the two countries, CCTV Cameras were rendered non-functional. The official further said that scanner machine fixed on the border was also made operative for convenience of the passengers with luggage. They cross into Pakistan and pass through the machine for checking.

Routine business and trade activities on the border continued, albeit strict policy had been adopted by the Pakistani border security officials at Torkham under which only those Afghan citizens were permitted to cross into Pakistani territory who have valid travelling documents.

Meanwhile, construction work on the gate at the border was in progress and pillars had been built on the construction site. The official sources said that due to fasting, pace of work was slow and structuring works carried out at night time.
