WASHINGTON: The United States has expressed its sympathies with the family and the people of Pakistan over the senseless murder of Qawwali singer Amjad Sabri.

Answering a question during his media briefing, state department spokesperson John Kirby said “we express our sympathies with the people of Pakistan as they mourn the senseless murder of Qawwali singer Amjad Sabri.”

John Kirby said such acts violate the fundamental freedoms of expression and religion and belief.

The arts have long been a forum for new ideas for fighting against intolerance, he said.—INP
