RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The Punjab cane commissioner has been told to seal off the Brother Sugar Mills for defaulting in paying farmers against sugarcane supplies.

The Lahore High Court order which came on Friday warned the mills that it would be auctioned if it failed to come up with a payment plan until the July 12 hearing.

The order stemmed from complaining farmers who had appealed to the court.

Cane Commissioner Waqas Ahmad told the court on Friday that the mills defaulted up to Rs. 670 million last year and up to Rs. 170 million this year and that the mills had defended itself by claiming that it was unable to pay because it was in a financial crisis.
