KARACHI: The Met Office on Friday forecast a glacial lake burst in Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral with an expected rainy spell during the next four days.

It alerted the local communities of Gilgit, Hunza, Nagar, Ghizer, Shigar, Shingo, Shyok and other vulnerable areas to the glacial lake flooding over the period.

It said that rain-thunderstorm with a few heavy falls was expected at scattered places of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Upper Punjab, Kashmir and GB, and at isolated places in South Punjab, Zhob and Mirpurkhas divisions.

It warned that expected heavy downpour was feared to unleash flash flooding and landslides in the vulnerable areas. Light rain is also likely along Sindh-Makran coast.

“Heat low lies over northeast-Balochistan and its adjoining area. Weak monsoon currents are penetrating upper & central parts of the country. A Shallow westerly wave is also affecting upper parts of the country and likely to persist during next 24 to 48 hours,” it said.

Weather in the next 48 hours: Rain-thunderstorm with a few heavy falls is expected at scattered places of KP, Upper Punjab, Islamabad, Kashmir and GB and at isolated places in South Punjab and Zhob division.
