DUBAI: Passenger traffic via Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest international hub, dropped 1 percent from a year ago to 5.86 million people in June because of the Islamic holy month of Ramazan, the airport’s operator said on Sunday.

Most of Ramazan, which normally reduces business travel in the region, occurred during the month of June this year.

In the first half of this year passenger traffic rose 5.8 percent to 40.51 million people.

Cargo handled by Dubai International rose 3.9 percent to 226,175 tonnes in June, and grew 3.8 percent to 1.28 million tonnes in the first half of 2016.—Reuters
