RECORDER REPORT

PESHAWAR: Expressing grave concern over the delay in up-gradation of services, Sub-Engineers of Communication and Works (C&W) Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, on Thursday gave a one-month deadline to provincial government for approval of their service structure otherwise the officials will agitate sternly.

This was announced by All Sub-Engineers Association (ASEA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa President Malik Bashir while addressing at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club. He said service structure was basic right of the public sector employees and the sub-engineers had been crying for the past over 30 years but to no avail.

Flanked by other office bearers including Nigar-ul-Haq, Muhammad Hamid Zia, Bakhtiar Hassan, Munir Khan, Niamatullah, Malik Bashir said that the sub-engineers, who had been appointed in basic pay scale 11 thirty years ago, were still in the same grade.

The employees of various other cadres in government departments including education, health, police, and secretariat were thoroughly promoted and constable level employees could become superintendent of police (SPs) but the sub-engineers were working in the same old scales.

“We have held meetings with all relevant officials and requested them to resolve our long awaited demand but no one paid serious attention. In a state of compulsion, we move court in 2010 on a petition and the relevant officials had assured court that they had sent the summary to chief minister for approval but even then did not solve the issue,” he lamented.
