LAHORE: The three-day Millat Tractors Governor’s Cup Golf, which has ingrained a permanent place for itself in the golfing arenas of Pakistan, will get underway here from Friday (today).
Agha Ali Imam, Convenor Golf Gymkhana Golf Club told reporters here on Thursday that the championship is open to amateur golfers only and one more outstanding aspect of the event is that the title goes to the participant with the best net score over three rounds. That makes it one rare event on the national golf calendar which provides this opportunity to upcoming golfers of talent and ability, he said.
Sardar Murad explained the essential details of the various events which are:-
Men Amateurs
2.1 Net & Gross events for Amateurs will be held over 3 rounds (totally 54 holes, with 18 holes each day) from Friday 23rd to Sunday 25th September 2016. Eligibility requirements are that participating golfers should have a handicap of 14 & below.
Seniors
2.2 Net & Gross events for Seniors will be held over 18 holes on Saturday 24th September 2016. Eligibility requirements are that participating senior golfers should be above 55 years of age and less than 70 years and have a handicap of 14 and below.
Veterans
2.3 Net & Gross events for Veterans will be held over 9 holes on Friday 23rd September 2016. Eligibility requirements are that participating Veterans golfers should be in the age bracket 70 years and above and have a handicap of 18 & below. The Veterans will also have the advantage of 1 extra stroke for every 2 years of age difference. In case where the veterans player is above 80 years he will get 1 stroke advantage for every year.
Ladies
2.4 Net & Gross events for Ladies will be held over 36 holes on Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th September 2016. Eligibility requirement is that participating lady golfers should have a handicap of 36 & below:
Juniors
2.5 Net & Gross events for Juniors will be held over 9 holes on Friday 23rd September 2016. Eligibility requirement is that participating junior golfers should have a handicap of 36 & below: Khawaja Pervaiz intimated that prize distribution ceremony will be held at 5:00 pm on Sunday (25th September) at Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club.
