'Zardari's surprise'

This is apropos a Business Recorder editorial "Zardari's surprise" carried by the newspaper on Sunday. It made the following conclusion: "The government on its part has 'launched' its not-so-secret-weapon in the shape of Maulana Fazlur Rehman to mediate between the government and the PPP and thereby prevent any alliance between the PPP and PTI emerging. It remains to be seen whether Asif Zardari's gambit will yield the results expected from it. If not, the option of agitation, or at least the threat of it, could once again be trotted out. We must wait and see."

No doubt, this is a highly objective assessment of the situation following Mr Zardari's arrival in Pakistan. That he has been able to create a significant impression despite his 'surprise' turning into a damp squib is a fact that can be discerned from growing hostility that country's media has demonstrated towards him. It was on Sunday that several TV channels broadcast an utterly baseless 'news' claiming that Mr Zardari has left for abroad for his medical check-up. Don't all those who aired and published this 'news' know the fact that what they've done in relation to Mr Zardari is a piece of yellow journalism.
