Narendra Modi’s narrative

It was only recently that new army chief Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa too rejected India’s self-defeating claims about so-called surgical strikes.

According to the ISPR, Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa said, “Pakistan armed forces are fully geared to respond to any aggression by India.” The statement came from the military commander following Indian army chief General Bipin Rawat’s message to Pakistan earlier this month. In his message, the Indian chief raised the threats of conducting further ‘surgical strikes’ on Pakistani soil, if needed.

There is no doubt about the fact that the BJP-led government is determined to escalate tension. The growing belligerence of New Delhi says it all. On the other hand, prime minister Narendra Modi seems to have lost his marbles. Little does he perhaps know that he has already caused immeasurable harm to the armed forces of his own country through his ‘surgical strikes’ claim. No party in India, for example, is willing to buy his narrative.
