KARACHI: The police on Thursday submitted a final charge sheet against Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L) leaders Professor Hasan Zafar Arif and Amjadullah Khan in cases pertaining to an alleged hate speech of their party founder.

While furnishing the final charge sheet (challan) with the administrative judge of Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATC), the Azizabad Police informed it that the accused persons had facilitated the anti-state speech of their supremo Altaf Hussain that was delivered at the party’s headquarters, Nine-Zero through a telephone call on July 29, 2016. Altaf had criticized the military officials and hurled threats to officers of the law enforcement agencies who were leading Karachi operation, the charge sheet read.

The investigators also maintained that 70-year old Prof Zafar and Amjadullah along with other accused had arranged and facilitated the MQM founder’s speech in which he incited the party workers for extorting money from the business community and outraged the religious feelings of the people. The police told the administrative judge that it could not arrest the absconding accused -Altaf Hussain, MQM-Pakistan chief Farooq Sattar, Khushbakht Shujaat, Ameen-ul-Huq, Izhar Ahmed Khan, and others-despite all-out efforts.

The judge accepted the charge sheet and sent the case to concerned ATC for trial.

Prof Zafar and Amjadullah along with Kunwar Khalid Younus were arrested outside the Karachi Press Club (KPC) on October 21, 2016 as they were going to address a press conference in a bid to reconsolidate the Altaf’s faction of the party.—PPI
