RECPORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The Punjab police department tightened the security in the provincial metropolis on Friday, particularly at various shrines and such other places, to avert any untoward incident besides closing the Shrine of Bibi Pak Daman for the visitors.

During Juma prayers, extra police force was deployed outside the mosques and other sensitive holy places. People were allowed to enter mosques and other holy places only after ‘strict physical checking’ by the police personnel.

Due to the closure of Bibi Pak Daman, a large number of devotees who could not enter the shrine’s premises said that closure was not a good option.

According to the police sources, they had put up several walkthrough gates and metal detectors at public places to ensure security in the city.

They said all the roads leading to open places for worship would be closed if necessary.

The spokesman of the police said they had ensured ‘3-layer’ security arrangements in the city.

He said SP Civil Lines Ali Raza, SP Model Town Ismail Kharak, SP Cantt Rana Zahir and SP City Muhammad Naveed reviewed security arrangements of different sensitive places.
