KARACHI: Chairman, Pakistan Tanners’ Association (PTA), Anjum Zafar said that the incentive package announced by Prime Minister in January 2017 has become “Ineffective/unproductive” for leather sector of Pakistan as a result of inadvertently omission of related H.S. Codes for finished leather.

He said H.S. codes such as 4112.0000/4113.1000/4113.9000/4107.1200/41.07.9200/4107.9100/4302.1910/4302.1990 in the concerned SRO # 62(I)/2017 dated 02.02.2017 regarding drawback of local taxes & levies (Non Textile) Order 2017 issued by MOC in the wake of Incentive Package announced for all core sectors of exports including leather sector of Pakistan.

He also articulated that in negative repercussion for the omission of remaining above H.S. Codes related to finished leather the 95 percent exporters of the leather sector of Pakistan, which is the 2nd biggest export oriented Industry of the country, are still deprived after lapse of 2 weeks, from the date of issuance of SRO # 62, to avail the benefit of the Incentive Package announced by PM on 10.01.2017 and subsequently the Incentive Package is becoming un-useful and unproductive for leather sector of Pakistan.

Anjum Zafar shared with the press that prior intimation, for all related H.S. Codes, was already made to the MOC, FBR & others concerned quarters of the government through PTA’s special letter well before the issuance of SRO to ensure incorporation of all 11 related H.S. Codes for leather sector accordingly.—PR
