RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court has asked the divisional superintendent of Pakistan Railways in Karachi, the director general of the Training Centre at Walton in Lahore and the chief personnel officer of Pakistan Railways’ headquarters in Lahore to appear in the court in person or by pleader in a departmental promotion case on April 17.

The complainant, Muqadar Zaman, who is an assistant yard master, stated in his constitution petition filed on Feb. 8 that the railway administration had recently issued a letter saying that only assistant yard masters who passed a literacy course for the position were qualified for promotion.

He said this was discriminatory and a means to promote the more favoured employees of the management. No such condition existed in the past, he said. “Let notice be issued to the respondents as well as DAG for 17-4-2017,” reads the notice issued by the High Court on Tuesday.
