KARACHI:  Provincial Minister for Population Welfare and Department Mir Mumtaz Hussain Jakhrani has said that a rapid population growth and high fertility rate are the root cause of all socio-economic problems.

This he said while addressing the ceremony of distributing appointment orders among the newly appointed women medical officers and conferment of posting orders to officials against quota in the population welfare department.

He said people do not avail the services and facilities offered by the population welfare department. Discussing the issue of contraceptive, he said they are still taboo in our society. Resultantly fertility along with maternal and infant mortality is high, he added.

He said that Pakistan People’s Party politics revolve around the welfare of the common people of country. PPP policies is designed to benefit the poor people of Pakistan.

He said that he feels proud of the dream of Zufikar Ali Bhutto to provide Roti Kapra and Makan and the dream of Shaheed  Benazir Bhutto to empower women in the country. Both are fulfilled in the population welfare department.

Jakhrani welcomed the newly appointed women medical officers in department and said he hoped that they will work hard in the field for achieving the desired targets.

According to government details 56 women medical officers have been appointed through the Sindh Public Service Commission, 53 of them females, to meet the needs of doctors in most affected remote areas of the province, including Thar, Umerkot, Mithi, Jacobabad and Jamshoro. People who belong to these areas need extra help and care, he said, and the services rendered will be highly appreciated in these neglected areas.
