LAHORE: Federal Ombudsmen Salman Farooqi distributed certificates among the participants of a four months training session for 12 prisoners. The training workshop was organised by the COMSATS at the District Jail, Kot Lakhpat, Lahore.

The prisoners have successfully completed computer technology and graphic design skills training.

This is an initiative of CIIT, Lahore and Punjab Police for the capacity building of prisoners during their prison and to empower them for better skilled life on completion of prison for securing a respectable place in the society.

The CIIT Lahore established two computer labs in Kot Lakhpat Jail, one comprising of 15 computers for male prisoners and the other lab with 5 computers for female prisoners. Wazfaqi Mohtasib appreciated the contribution of CIIT under the leadership of Dr S M Junaid Zaidi. He further advised to connect this training programme with diploma/certification so that the trainees would be able to find suitable jobs when they are released from the prison.

Dr. Farooqi assured that all arrangements will be made to make this training programme useful for inmates as per the vision of Wafaqi Mohtasib and Dr S M Junaid Zaidi. Such activities are within the defined mission of CIIT under the aspect of “Outreach and community services”.

Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas, Director, Lahore campus, said that in July 17 more prisoners will be given training on the same lines to impart requisite skills for becoming good citizen on completion of their prison.

The ceremony was concluded by awarding certificates to successful prisoners by Salman Farooq.
