KARACHI: Thousands of devotees clad in black on Saturday marked Youme Ali (RA) with religious zeal amid airtight security across the metropolis.

Women, Children and aged marched on M.A. Jinnah Road, a main route of the procession, chanting religious slogans beating chest and holding flags and banners inscribed with sacred scriptures to observe Youme Ali (RA).

The main procession route was sealed off with trucks and containers while the law enforcement agencies had banned use of ‘heli-cams’ on procession routes for media coverage. 

The mourners converged at Nishtar Park and gradually moved towards final destination to conclude the annual religious rituals at the Imambargah Hussainia, Kharadar.

Strict security measures were taken to avoid untoward incidents and maintain law and order at the procession, police said. Over 5,570 police personnel and officers have been deployed across the city to protect the participants of the processions and Majalis.

Rangers and police contingents carried out snap checking on roads and streets in the different parts of the city. Police and Rangers also held patrolling the roads and streets with random checks of passer-by, motorbikes and four vehicles at different points around the procession route.

Rangers also foiled a terror bid arresting four suspects during operations in Baldia Town and Orangi Town.

According to the handout issued by Sindh rangers, the suspects had made all preparations to carry out a suicide attack during the Youm-e-Ali procession in Karachi

The ranger’s spokespersons said the alleged terrorists belong to banned outfit Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. Weapons, ammunition and explosives material was seized from the suspect’s possession.
