RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Karachi chapter, on Friday threatened the government that his party would resort to public agitation if the latter permitted the K-Electric to scale up its multi-year tariff regime.

Addressing a press conference at the Idarae Noor-e-Haq, JI Karachi chief, Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman rejected the multi-year K-Electric tariff.

He said that a hearing on K-Electric tariff was sabotaged. "JI was denied the right to express the viewpoint of masses under a planed agenda," he said, adding that the KE had employed criminals of political parties to use them for their official matters.

He accused the Nepra officials of supporting the KE for increase in the electricity rates. "Should the authority increases the tariff, it will be proved that the high ups of NEPRA are colluding with KE," he said. The JI Chief called the tariff regime 'illogical'.

He said that in 2014 the federal government had directly increased the tariff by 30 percent, which was 'illegal' because it overlooked the authority's approval. He asked the NEPRA to reverse the raise in the KE's electricity tariff.
