RECORDER REPORT

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police has a history of bravery and sacrifices where from a police constable to high ranking police officer Additional Inspector General sacrificed lives for the sake of country and in war against terrorism.

In the war against terrorism and criminal elements, some 1500 police officers and officials embraced martyrdom from 1972 to 2016 while several others either became permanently disabled or medically unfit for the job.

The long list of martyrs included one Additional IGP Sifwat Ghayur, two DIGs Abid Ali and Malik Muhammad Saad, one ASP, seven SPs, 24 DSPs, 25 Inspectors, 115 Sub-Inspectors, 131 ASIs, 148 Head Constables and 1133 Constables.

The sacrifices of police martyrs alongside the security forces ensure peace and tranquility in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and make the defense of the country impregnable. Several police officers and officials embraced martyrdom in suicide attacks and protected many precious lives. One can hardly find any city, village, Mohalla or street in the province where the children of police martyrdom may not live. The matched sacrifices of KP police gave confidence to the people and restored hustle and bustle in terrorism stricken areas of the province but unfortunately the compensation being given to the bereaved families of police martyrs does not match their sacrifices. The KP police martyrs get manifold less compensation amount as compare to the package being given to a martyr of Punjab police.

According to police data Punjab government gives Rs 23.5 million to bereaved family of a martyr police constable or head constable including five Marla house worth 13.5 million while in KP the amount is only Rs 4.4 million. Similarly, the Punjab government gives Rs 30.03 million to martyred SI or ASI and Rs 41.2 million to the rank of ASP/DSP while in KP the amount allocated is only Rs 5.5 million for SI and ASI and 11 million for ASP/DSP. The Punjab government gives Rs 50.1 million to the rank of SP, SSP and AIG while the bereaved families of KP police officers of the same ranks only get Rs 15.4 million. The bereaved families of DIG and above get Rs 72.2 million package while in KP the bereaved families of the ranks get only Rs 16.5 million.

The KP police deserve the same Shuhada package and removal of such big discrepancy in payment of compensation package for their martyrdom because KP province witnessed more terrorists’ attacks than any other province of the country.
