RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: The Met Office on Friday warned the growers of rainwater accumulation in fields could prove fatal for the standing crops that should be drained out immediately.

“Accumulation of stagnant water in the fields due to heavy rains is fatal for standing crops like cotton. Farmers may take suitable measures to resolve the issue,” it said in advisory.

It said that farmers should schedule irrigation in accordance with the expected rainy weather. It also asked the growers to remove weeds from their standing crops to help the yield attain full growth.

“Measures may be taken to preserve the standing crops and vegetables from the damaging effects of varying weather pattern due to monsoon systems,” the Met said. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in upper parts of Punjab, at isolated places of Karachi Division and Gilgit-Baltistan till July 20.
