LAHORE: The City Traffic Police (CTP) Lahore in collaboration with the Punjab Safe City Authority (PSCA) is going to launch the ‘automated number plate reading system’ in the provincial metropolis with an aim to reduce traffic violations.

This was decided in a meeting held to review the progress of this project at the PSCA office here on Friday. The meeting was also attended by SSP PSCA Akbar Nasir Khan and officials of the custom and excise department. They also discussed matters relating to the e-challaning and e-licensing.

Speaking to the participants, Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Rai Ejaz Ahmed said the working on this project will be completed within few days which will be launched in the city. He said they are taking steps with the assistance of the PSCA, PITB, EXCISE, TEPA, TEVTA and other relevant departments for providing better and safer travelling facilities to the commuters.

The CTO also revealed that they are working on different projects with the PITB to ensure smooth traffic flow management system on permanent basis. SSP Akbar Nasir said this software will have the ability to read number plates through the integrated cameras of the PSCA besides imposition of fines on traffic violators by identifying their identity.

He said around 90 percent working of this project has been completed and will be launched within few days. He hoped that this project will bring positive results soon after its launching.
