KARACHI: An Accountability Court here adjourned the hearing of Rs 462 billion corruption case against former Petroleum Minister Dr Asim Hussain and others till August 16.

At the start of the hearing earlier on Wednesday, Dr Asim’s counsel asked the court for time for comparing the documents with the index.

Dr Asim and Athar Hussain appeared in the court, while witness Muhammad Akram and Investigation Officer appeared on behalf of NAB.

Arguing his case Dr Asim’s counsel said the order of the court was not adhered to because the index provided to him was the same as the previous one. “If this was the index that would had to be provided to us what was the need for the court’s order,” he argued.

Meanwhile, the Rangers explained that accused Dr Asim’s statement was narrated incorrectly and said that Rangers have eliminated terrorism in Karachi.

Over this the court addressing Dr. Asim’s counsel remarked that if he should talk only if he has not received the documents. The court said that NAB would not be allowed to present any document unless a copy of it is provided to you first.

The court later adjourned the hearing of the case till August 16 after saying that it intends to hear the case on daily basis. The court also directed the counsels of all the suspects to ensure their presence so that it could hear the case on daily basis.—INP
