LONDON: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that terrorism-related cases were sent to military courts for trial. Abbasi was speaking with reporters after his arrival here at the airport.

He was replying a questioner about the army chief’s letter regarding sending cases to military courts for trial. The premier said the terrorism-related cases which the former had mentioned in his latter, were sent to military courts. It merits mention here that Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa had written to PM Abbasi, drawing his attention to the lack of cases in military courts for trial.

PM Abbasi said he had come to London to attend an event being organized in connection with the country’s 70th Independence Day. This is his second visit to London in a week as previously he had visited the British capital to meet former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He emphasized that it was duty of the courts to administer justice and it should also be manifestly seen to be done.

To a query, he said the national economy was in good condition, which was sending a positive message around the globe. He deflected a question about Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz’s interview to a foreign newspaper in which she had claimed her family had decided to give her a leading role in the party.—NNI
