HYDERABAD: An awareness walk was arranged in context to “World Tsunami Day” to commemorate the victims of Tsunami disasters. The event was organized by Centre for Coastal and Deltaic Studies, University of Sindh Thatta Campus. The walk started from University of Sindh Thatta Campus and ended at Press Club, Makli Thatta.

A large number of students, faculty members of University of Sindh campus Thatta, representatives from civil society and INGOs participated in the walk. The purpose of the walk was to raise awareness on this years’ UNISDR aim to reduce the number of affected people by disasters and to promote the importance of preparedness at community and district authority level.

Later, Prof Dr Mukhtiar Ahmed Mahar, Director, Centre for Coastal and Deltaic Studies, University of Sindh Campus Thatta highlighted the current scenario of climate change, coastal issues, strategies, future challenges and academic perspectives. Sajjad Hyder Shah, Livelihood Advisor HI and Zeeshan Azmat, DRR Advisor HI shared their views on the importance of such awareness raising events and said that instead of looking back to memorize the tragic events, we should look forward and better prepare ourselves for future disasters.
