KARACHI: Karachi Mayor Waseem Akhtar on Friday reiterated his demand for abolition of quota system saying it had created rifts among ethnic units of Sindh province.

“PPP-led Sindh government should make efforts to ensure merit-oriented fair policy for all sectors including education and healthcare,” he said talking to the media after inauguration of a reconstructed primary school in Nasir Colony, Korangi Sector 32. DMC Korangi chairman Nayyar Raza, vice chairman Syed Ahmar Ali, chairman Works Committee Hassan Naqvi, chairman Parks Committee Khurram Farhan, director general Works and Services Shahab Anwar and other officials were also present.

Waseem Akhtar said around 20 million children had not got admission to schools in Sindh including Karachi. He urged the elected representatives to play their role to equip the new generation with quality education. He said the Nasir Colony School was reconstructed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) at a cost of Rs 20 million. The Mayor also vowed to renovate other schools in Korangi District.
