KARACHI: The Karachi Port handled 235,376 tonnes of cargo comprising 171,635 tonnes of import cargo and 63,741 tonnes of export cargo including 12,005 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday.

The total import cargo of 171,635 tonnes comprised of 84,931 tonnes of containerised cargo; 11,322 tonnes of general cargo; 7,944 tonnes of fertilizer and 67,438 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

The total export cargo of 63,741 tonnes comprised of 50,240 tonnes of containerised cargo; 645 tonnes of general cargo; 9,750 tonnes of talcum powder and 3,106 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.

As many as 12,005 containers comprising of 5,479 containers import and 6,526 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

The breakup of imported containers shows 2,501 of 20’s and 1,391 of 40’s loaded while 12 of 20’s and 92 of 40’s empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 1,488 of 20’s and 407 of 40’s loaded containers while 308 of 20’s and 1,958 of 40’s empty containers were handled during the business hours.

There were three ships namely APL Austria, Newark and Hankuk Chemi carrying containers and chemical respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period.

There were six vessels viz. Hamburg Bay, CMA CGM Tosca, Bon Atlantico Aviator, Orleans and Bedford Castle carrying containers, oil tanker and general cargo respectively currently at the berths.

There were seven ships namely Hamburg Bay, CMA CGM Tosca, MT Lahore, Hamburg Star, Bon Atlantico, Panoria and Rickmers New Orleans carrying containers, oil tankers, mogas, talcum powder and general cargo respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while another ship namely Cosco New York carrying containers is expected to sail on Wednesday.

There were five vessels viz. YM Wealth, MT Quetta, Mid Nature, STI Executive and Porthos carrying containers, oil tankers, mogas and general cargo respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while four vessels viz. Ever Diamond, MSC Maritina, MOL Endowment and Johanna Oldendorff carrying containers and coal respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.

PORT QASIM

A cargo volume of 176,820 tonnes comprising 135,337 tonnes of import cargo and 41,483 tonnes of export cargo including 4,049 loaded and empty containers (TEUs) was handled at Port Qasim during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

As many as 4,049 containers comprising of 2,067 containers import and 1,982 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.

There were three ships namely CV MSC Susanna, MT Corona and MT Al-Sahila carrying containers, oil tanker and LPG respectively sailed out to sea on Tuesday morning, while two more ships namely CV MSC Chicago and CV Newark carrying containers are expected to sail on the same day afternoon.

A total number of ten vessels viz. CV MSC Susanna, CV MSC Chicago, CV Newark, MV Santy, MV Loch Crinan, MT Navios Coral, MT Great-61, MT Umm Addalkh, MT Corona and MT Al-Sahila were currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, rice, coal, soyabean, LNG and palm oil respectively during the last 24 hours.

As many as one ship namely CV MSC Algeciras carrying containers was at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim during the last 24 hours.

There were two vessels viz. CV MSC Algeciras and CV MSC Chicago carrying containers expected to take berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal on Tuesday.

There were two ships namely CV CMA CGM Latour and MT Gaschem Antarctic carrying containers and LPG respectively due to arrive on Wednesday.
