PESHAWAR: A three-day anti-polio campaign will begin in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) from today.

According to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Health Department, more than 6.7 million children up to five years of age will be administered anti-polio drops. About 26,000 thousand teams have been constituted, which will visit door to door to ensure administering anti-polio drops to the children.

Polio teams will also be available at railway stations, bus stands and other public places to ensure administering anti-polio drops to each and every child. Special security measures have been taken for security of polio teams.

Earlier, in this regard a meeting of Emergency Operation Centre Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was held under chairmanship of Coordinator EOC, Atif Rehman here. Director EPI Dr Ikram Shah, UNICEF provincial team leader, Dr Johar Khan, BMGP technical focal person Dr Imtiaz Ali Shah, WHO Representative Dr Abidi Nasir and other officials of department concerned were present in the meeting.

Atif Rehman while addressing at the meeting said that the provincial government is utilizing all available resources under comprehensive program for elimination of polio from the province, resultantly, availed remarkable achievements in this regard. However, he said the mission to complete eradicate the polio from this region on permanent basis. He stressed upon the people from all segment of the society to create awareness about the significance of the polio vaccination, which is noble cause and national obligation. During the meeting, he informed all arrangements have been finalized to carryout three day anti-polio drive in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which would be launched today.
