PESHAWAR: Prices of important kitchen items have remained unchanged in retail market as no significant increase or change was witnessed in preceding week as compared to last week, according to survey conducted by Business Recorder here on Sunday.

The survey noticed that prices of most daily use items, like vegetables, pulses, sugar, and others have remained stable in retail market.

Chicken meat is being sold at Rs177 per kilogram, which was selling at Rs165 per kilogram in last week, showing an increase of Rs10 per kg in retail market, the survey said. However, the price of farm eggs was remained stable as available at Rs100 and Rs90 in the retail market.

A one-kilogram tomato is being sold at Rs40 per kilogram against the same rate in the last week. The price of onion was also remained unchanged in retail market as available at Rs40 and Rs30 per kilogram.

Ginger is being sold at Rs200 per kilogram, garlic at Rs50 and Rs100 per kilogram. Peas are being available at Rs60 per kg, red potato at Rs30 per kg and cucumber is being sold at Rs30 and Rs20 per kg in retail market.

The survey further noticed that arvi is being sold at Rs50 per kg, cauliflower at Rs50 per kg, cabbage at Rs40 per kg, turnip at Rs20 per kg, bringle at Rs30 per kg, kaddu at Rs50 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs100 per kg.

Sugar is available at Rs52 per kilogram in retail market.

The survey noticed that prices of pulses have remained high-side in the retail market as no significant increase or change was witnessed. A one-kilogram good quality old rice (sela) is being sold at Rs145 per kg, while new one available at Rs130 per kg. One-kilogram tota rice is available at Rs80 per kg in retail market.

Dal chana is being sold at Rs110 per kilogram, dal mash at Rs120 per kg.

Similarly, dal masoor is being sold at Rs80 per kilogram in retail market, while the dal green priced at Rs130 per kilogram, dhoti dal available at Rs90 per kg.

The retail price of big-size white chana is being available at Rs180 per kilogram, while small-size white chana priced at Rs120 per kg. Red bean is being available in different rates in retail market as being sold at Rs 170, Rs140 and Rs120 per kg.

Likewise, price of gram flour (baisen) is being sold at Rs120 per kg, while price of black dal chilka was remained stable as available at Rs140 per kg.

The survey witnessed that prices of all brand and quality of cooking oil/ghee were remained unchanged as available within range of Rs120, Rs 160 and Rs170 and Rs180 in retail market. Moong is available at Rs120 per kg.

During the visit in local market, it was noticed that butchers are defying the official rates, and selling beef at exorbitant rate in retail market, according to which cow beef is being available at Rs 300, Rs 320 and Rs 340 per kilogram. Mutton is being sold at Rs 700 and Rs 750 per kilogram in retail market.

Fruits are staple food, which is also reaching out of purchasing power of the common man as prices have registered ‘sky-high’ in retail market. According to survey, apple is being sold at Rs200 and Rs150 per kg, melon at Rs70 per kg, strawberry at Rs100 and Rs120 per kilogram, guava at Rs100-80 per kilogram, banana at Rs50 and Rs 80 per dozen.

The survey noticed that one litre of fresh milk is being sold at Rs110 and Rs120 against the official fixed rate of Rs90 per litre. Yogurt is being available at Rs110 and Rs120 per kg. A good quality milk powder is being sold at Rs720 per kilogram pack in retail market. Black tea is being available at Rs700 per kg and Rs640 per kg, while green tea at Rs560 per kg, in retail market.
