Tree plantation launched through systematic plan

LAHORE: Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Nayyar Iqbal has said that tree plantation is vital to curb the menace of climate degradation and in Bahawalpur Division tree plantation has been launched through systematic plan and sustained mechanism. He made these remarks on the eve of launching tree plantation by planting the sapling in the lawn of Deputy Commissioner Office here on Saturday.

“Concerted and vigorous attention and constant monitoring of the sapling is essential for the proper and monitored growth of the saplings to turn the saplings into trees,” Commissioner Bahawalpur maintained.

He further said that trees and greenery not only help a sustainable pollution free environment but trees and greenery enhance the aesthetic profiles of the cities and the rural areas.

“To ensure healthy echo system the most important policy intervention both at society and state level is to maximize collective efforts for tree plantation as a collective mission in the country,” Commissioner said.

On this occasion, district forest officer briefed that the target has been fixed to plant as many as 2 lac and 32 thousand saplings in Bahawalpur division. Meanwhile, Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Nayyar Iqbal has urged upon municipal service delivery departments to sharpen their operational mechanism regarding waste management to accelerate the drive to make Bahawalnagar a zero waste city.

He issued these directions while holding a high level meeting held at the conference room of Deputy Commissioner Office, Bahawalnagar on Saturday.

The meeting deliberated in detail various measures to improve sanitation system, health delivery sector and to revise effective precautionary flood control measures.

Commissioner Bahawalpur Division directed all stakeholders involved in flood control measures to establish close, effective and efficient coordination mechanism with all line departments to implement flood control policy framework in district Bahawalnagar.

“Special measures should be put into place to strengthen the embankments and a close vigil should be operationlized to stop the breach of Canals,” Commissioner Bahawalpur Division urged.

The official briefed the meeting that there stands no danger regarding flood. However, local administration has finalized their flood fighting arrangements.
