ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Wednesday asked winning candidates in the general election to submit details of their election expenses for timely issuance of notification of their success.

The Commission in a statement has asked the winning candidates to submit their election expenses to returning officers concerned.

All successful candidates are bound to submit their expenditure detail within 10 days of polling while non-successful candidates are required to be submitted expenditure detail within 30 days. No candidate has so far submitted details of his election expenses.

Meanwhile, the ECP also asked provincial election commissioners and district returning officers to submit an explanation about delay in polls results.

In a written order, the electoral body inquired responsible officers why the poll results were delayed beyond 2:00am.

A day after the countrywide polls, ECP Secretary Babar Yaqoob had said the results of General Election 2018 were delayed due to a technical glitch.

While speaking to the media, he said the delay had not been caused by any ‘wicked conspiracy’ or pressure, adding that the delay was a result of a malfunction in the result transmission system while data was entered into it. “The RTS system had not been tested in Pakistan,” he remarked.
