Amin Kanju arrested from courtroom

RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: Amin Kanju, son of former federal minister Siddique Kanju, was arrested from the courtroom of Supreme Court (SC) Lahore Registry on charges of detaining and abusing his maids.

The parents of the maids Yasmin and Saima appeared before a two-member bench with a complaint that Amin used to physically torture their daughters. The father of the girls Muhammad Rafiq said his daughters were employed at the house of Kanju. However, he said, Kanju often kept his daughters in detention and tortured them too. Lastly, he said, Kanju leveled a theft allegation on the girls, detained for days and physically tortured them.

“Why don’t you stop victimizing the poor?” Chief Justice asked Amin Kanju who was present in the court. He ordered the police to arrest Kanju and proceed against him in accordance with law.

Another son of Siddique Kanju, Mustafa Kanju, is a court’s absconder as he fled the country soon after his acquittal in a murder case following ‘reconciliation’ with the complainant party. The Supreme Court during a suo motu had directed the prosecution to challenge the acquittal of the suspects.
