LAHORE: Chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq has appointed Amirul Azeem as the new Secretary General of the JI for the next five years. The appointment has been made with the consultation of the newly elected Shoora members of the JI. Amirul Azeem has served as Information Secretary of the JI. Earlier, he has been the Chief of the Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba.

Eight new Naib Ameer (deputy chief) of the JI are Liaqat Baloch, Prof Muhammad Ibrahim Khan, Rashid Naseem, Asadullah Bhutto, Dr Farid Ahmed Piracha, Mian Muhammad Aslam, Dr Merajul Huda Siddiqui, and Abdul Ghaffar Aziz.

These office bearers took their oath at a simple ceremony held at Mansoora, on Friday morning.

Two elderly Deputy Chiefs of the JI, Prof Khurshid Ahmed and Hafiz Muhammad Idrees declined to accept the office of the JI Deputy Chief for the next term on account of their ill health. The JI Ameer accepted their excuse. He paid rich tributes to their valuable services for the JI. He said that the two elderly leaders had devoted their lives for the JI and the Islamic revolution in the country. He expressed the hope that the two would continue their patronage for the JI.

Meanwhile, the JI Ameer, while, addressing the Friday congregation at Mansoora mosque, said that the country had experienced the presidential system of government for 37 years since Ayub Khan. Ziaul Haq and Pervez Musharraf had also enjoyed full powers. However, the problems of the country had not been solved. He said the people who were arguing in support of the presidential system now were unaware of the country’s history. He said the problems facing the country and the nation could be solved only under the Islamic system which had not been tried in the country even for a single day.

Sirajul Haq said that a gang of thieves managed to come into power in the name of democracy again and again, and protected each other’s corruption.
