ISLAMABAD: Two children were injured due to unprovoked Indian forces firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) at Nikyal sector on Saturday night.

Foreign Office Spokesp-erson Nafees Zakaria said in a tweet that Indian troops engaged in a ceasefire violation targeting “innocent civilians” in the Balakot village in Nikial Sector along the LoC. The two children injured in the incident were nine and 14 years old.

On Saturday a 60-year-old woman was killed and a man was injured in a separate incident of cross-border firing along the LoC, an ISPR statement said.

Incidents of cross-border firing were reported with frequency in the last months of 2016 as tensions simmered between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir issue.

Exchanges of fire have been reported sporadically since the New Year began.—NNI
