RECORDER REPORT

LAHORE: The joint project of the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and Youth Affairs, Sports, Archeology & Tourism (YASAT), “Chief Minister’s e-Rozgaar Program” being formally launched on Friday May 19, 2017 at University of Gujrat (UoG). The Advisor to the Chief Minister Punjab, Chairman PITB and the founding Vice Chancellor of Information Technology University (ITU) Punjab will inaugurate the first Centre under CM e-Rozgaar Program, which will train the selected candidates for freelancing jobs in technical, non-technical and creative fields.

The entrepreneurial wing of the Punjab IT Board (PITB) envisioned a future where the youth of Punjab has a range of avenues to generate self-sustainable income. Building up on the idea, Chief Minister’s e-Rozgaar Program, a project to empower the youth through freelancing and earning online, came into being. Chairman PITB Dr. Umar Saif matched this vision with an expectation of not only “bringing Pakistani youth on the radar”, but also “improving our rankings to gauge international interest”.

PITB received enthusiastic response and received 33105 applications from the young graduates for registration. The application data reveals that 16 PhD, 1794 MPhil, 15574 Masters, 15143 graduates and 578 B.Tech (Honors) applied for this program. Applications were received from Attock, Bahwalnagar, Bhakkar, Chiniot, Dera Ghazi Khan, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jhang Jehlum, Kasur, Khanewal, Khushab, Layyah, Lodhran, Mandi Bahauddin, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, Nankana Sahib, Narowal, Okara, Pakpattan, Rajanpur, Sahiwal, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Toba Tek Singh and Vehari.

In order to exercise maximum transparency in the selection process a seven member committee headed by the Secretary YASAT Nayyar Iqbal devised a process after marathon discussion to make district wise population as base to determine the number of candidates and to give due credit to test results to observe the merit. Currently the e-Rozgaar program is undergoing a simultaneous process of selecting the candidates and is physically verifying their documents at the centers. After going through all these processes and signing an undertaking, the candidates will be ready to take their first class. Since the concept and awareness of earning through the internet and taking freelancing as a serious profession is very new in the smaller cities of Punjab, the Program has taken upon itself to guide and groom graduates from a variety of backgrounds. e-Rozgaar aims to open five centers within the current month that includes centers in Lahore, Gujrat, Taxila, Wah Cantt and Faisalabad.

On the basis of merit, selected candidates will be given three months training for freelance self-employment at 40 training centers by high profile trainers. Among these centers five centers are dedicated for female candidates. In the first phase 10,000 candidates will be trained in three different batches in one year. These Centers are being established in eleven 11 universities of Punjab. The training will enable the youth to generate income approximately from Rs. 40,000 to Rs. 80,000 per month while working from home.
