K-Electric converts 2,400 PMTs on ABCs
KARACHI: K-Electric on Thursday said that as many as 2,400 pole mounted transformers (PMTs) were converted on Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC) since the launch of its flagship community development project ‘Ujala.’
The latest installation under the project, according to KE spokesman, was carried out in selected areas of Bin Qasim, Malir, Gulistan-e- Johar, FB Area, Lyari, Landhi and North Karachi.
The power company’s aim of installation of kunda-resistant ABC is to streamline its distribution network besides transforming the lives of consumers with provision of electricity.
As per K-Electric spokesperson, “Project Ujala is progressing fast and aims at empowering the lives of over one million people residing in 200 communities across KE’s network by end of the year. We have pledged to help improve the reliability of power to these communities while boosting socioeconomic activities through sustainable development initiatives.”
To date, over 490,000 lives in 72 communities have been impacted positively while over 2,400 PMT’s have been converted on ABC through the project. Different communities have so far been transformed through the installation of ABC, new transformers and low-cost connections. Select areas of Saddar, Lines Area, Liaquatabad, Gazdarabad, Rehmat Chowk, Altaf Town and Keamari are now power theft-free areas with reduced load-shedding and minimal fault ratio.
