KARACHI: Industrialists of Karachi have decided under a joint strategy with the SSGC to deal with the gas crisis that the all seven industrial zones will not use gas in their factories one-day a week as a gas holiday, while industries will get gas with full pressure for 6 days so that the shortage of gas can be overcome and industrial production activities can continue unabated.

Faisal Moiz Khan, President, North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry (NKATI), said that the terminals would be repaired from June 29 to July 9. Until then, Sindh, especially Karachi, will continue to face gas shortages and industries will not get gas at full pressure.

"The seven Karachi town associations have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the SSGC on short-term basis to address the gas crisis and find a solution to the gas shutdown in industries, where Sindh Governor Imran Ismail played a role as a mediator," NKATI president said.

Faisal Moiz said that according to MoU, it was decided that the seven town associations of Karachi would have one-day gas holiday on a weekly basis, and on the day of the industrial zone's turn, the use of gas for production will be stopped in the said industrial zone, in order to overcome the gas shortage, while remaining 6 days with full pressure gas will be supplied to the factories in other industrial zones.

NKATI president urged North Karachi industrialists not to run their factories on gas on Thursday due to its turn.

If any industrial unit violates the MoU, the North Karachi Association of Trade & Industry will not be responsible and will not help in case of possible action against it.
