ISLAMABAD: Pakistani delegation Sunday flew for Paris (France) to attend Financial Action Task Force (FATF) Plenary meeting that would take up Pakistan’s progress on Anti-Money Laundering (AML)/ Combating Financing of Terrorism (CFT) today (Monday).

An official said that FATF meeting has started on Sunday but Pakistan’s progress report would be discussed on Monday and may be on Tuesday as well. The representatives from 205 countries and jurisdictions around the world, the IMF, UN, World Bank and other organizations would be meeting for FATF Week in Paris , France that would continue till October 18, 2019.

Pakistan delegation is being headed by Minister for Economic Affairs Division (EAD) Hammad Azhar and other members of delegation included Additional Secretary Finance representatives of National Counter Terrorism Authority (NACTA), Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) and Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) are said to be part of the delegation.

Sources said that Pakistan has made considerable progress and has already implemented most of FATF reconditions and this was also acknowledged in the APG – a regional affiliate of the FATF – in its mutual evaluation report (MER) which was released on last Sunday.

The MER noted that Pakistan made considerable progress in its systems to fight money laundering (ML) and terror financing (TF) in line to the global standard and the country was largely complaint to 9 out of 40 recommendations partially complaint to 26, fully complaint to one recommendation and non compliant to four .

Six days of meetings will focus on disrupting financial flows linked to crime and terrorism and discuss ways to contribute to global safety and security.—ZAHEER ABBASI
