ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of National Food Security and Research (MNFS&R) Friday briefed the International Monetary Fund (IMF) visiting team about food inflation, wheat and flour crises in the country.

Dr Muhammad Hashim Popalzai, secretary MNFS&R said that his ministry has briefed IMF team with respect to inflation. The IMF team was informed that prices of some commodities have come down and situation will further improve in next few months.

He said that during the meeting with the IMF team, wheat and flour crises in the country also came under discussion. The team was informed about the measures taken by the government for control prices, he said.

"We've also shared data of different crops with the IMF officials," he said.

According to official statement issued by MNFS&R, the IMF staff mission called on Minister for National Food Security and Research Makhdoom Khusro Bakhtyar.

Senior official of MNFS&R, Ministry of Finance and the State Bank of Pakistan were also present during the meeting.

It says that the minister informed the IMF mission that the government is taking necessary measures for the management of food inflation. The mission was further apprised that a bumper wheat crop is expected this year and there will be no issue of wheat supply in coming months.
