PM reiterates unwavering support to Kashmiris

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan, on the occasion of Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan, said the Kashmiris’ right of self-determination was recognised by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the Kashmiri people and assured that justice would prevail in their struggle for freedom.

“Today we commemorate the historic occasion of Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan, when Kashmiris passed a resolution for accession to Pakistan. We reaffirm our commitment to the Kashmiri people and stand with them in their struggle for self-determination,” the prime minister tweeted on Sunday.

The prime minister said, “Under international law, we will continue to fight for justice for Kashmiris as they struggle against the brutal and illegal actions of the Hindutva supremacist Indian government in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IOJK). I know that justice will prevail.”

Kashmiris on both sides of the LOC and all over the world are observing Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan on Sunday with a renewed pledge to continue the struggle for freedom from Indian occupation and complete merger of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan.

On this day in 1947, representatives of the Kashmiris unanimously passed the resolution of Kashmir’s accession to Pakistan during a meeting of the All Jammu and Kashmir Muslim Conference at the residence of Sardar Muhammad Ibrahim Khan in Srinagar.

Meanwhile, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has also reaffirmed the unwavering support to Kashmiris in their just struggle for freedom.

In a tweet on Sunday, he said despite decades of Indian occupation, the resolve of Kashmiris and immutable bonds to Pakistan stand strong.

The foreign minister said on this day in 1947, true representatives of Jammu and Kashmir adopted a historic resolution for accession to Pakistan.

Minister for Human Rights Dr Shireen Mazari also said generation after generation of Kashmiri men, women and children had confronted and resisted the Indian occupation, brutality, and incarceration.

In her message on the occasion of 19th July Youm-e-Ilhaq-e-Pakistan, she presented salute to the courage of the Kashmiris.
