KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar said the Chief Minister Sindh should take notice of delaying construction of National Highway (N-5) due to no sewerage work from Malir Kala Board to Malir 15 and citizens are suffering on this main artery.

Construction work of this road is not possible till the completion of sewerage and drainage work in this area. Water and sewerage bard has been informed repeatedly about this but so far no work was started for installing of sewerage pipe lines.

He said this while chairing a meeting on the construction of National Highway (N-5) on Saturday which was attended by the Works committee chairman Hasan Naqvi, Finance committee Nadeem Hidayat Hashmi, Director General Works Shahab Anwer, Director technical S M Shukaib, chief engineer, project director and other concerned officers.

Mayor Karachi said the water and sewerage board was not performing its duties and sewerage water accumulated in different areas of Karachi. Citizens are now asking this question that when they would get rid of their sewerage and water related problems.

He said with our limited resources whatever roads and streets have been carpeted by KMC were also beginning to get affected with the sewerage overflow over flow can be seen in Nazimabad, North Nazimabad, Ranchoreline, Manzoor Colony, Korangi, PECHS, Karachi Administration Society, Kashmiri Muhalla, Model Colony, Malir 15 and other many areas of Karachi and residents were having great trouble due to this situation.

He said the road from Malir Kala Board to Malir 15 flyover was suffering due to sewerage overflow and it has become very hard for vehicles to use this route.

Director General Works in a briefing said that due to overflowing of sewerage water from Malir Kala Board to Malir 15 Flyover, 450 meter road carpeting in this project of rehabilitation/reconstruction of National Highway (N-5) from Jinnah Terminal to Quaidabd cannot be carried out till KWSB carried out the sewerage line work.—NNI
