ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is expected to visit Karachi today (Monday) to discuss the situation in the wake of scorching heatwave killing at least 1,046 people.

Sources said that the Prime Minister will also review the report of the team he had constituted to ascertain the facts behind the large scale death toll due to the heatwave.

The Prime Minister has tasked a committee comprising Minister for States and Frontier Regions Lt Gen Abdul Qadir Baloch (retd) and Minister for National Health Services Regulation and Coordination Saira Afzal Tarar to visit Karachi and submit a report on the heat-wave related casualties.

The sources said that the committee members, who recently visited Karachi, submitted their findings to the Prime Minister. They said that another team comprising Secretary Water and Power and NEPRA chairman would brief the prime minister today about their probe into the electricity supply situation by K-Electric to the metropolis.

In Karachi, the sources said that Prime Minister will visit heatstroke victims at different hospitals and also meet the relevant authorities for a briefing on the power load shedding situation in the city.

The Prime Minister, according to the sources is also expected to chair a high-level meeting on the law and order situation in the city in which the relevant high authorities of law enforcement agencies would give a briefing to the premier about the ongoing operation against the criminals in the city.
