ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan on Thursday lashed out at Khawaja Asif for his recent remarks regarding militants operating in the country, saying Pakistan does not need enemies when such a person is the foreign minister.

“Khawaja Asif’s comments of ownership of militant groups coming from a foreign minister undermining Pakistan’s security,” he said in a series of tweets on Thursday.

Asif, who is attending the 72nd session of the UN General Assembly, had said, “Nawaz Sharif paid a political price for peace efforts with India,” during his talk at the Asia Society forum on Tuesday.

“Sharifs and their cronies are desperate to appease Indo-US lobby and its interests as their properties are all stashed away in the West,” said Khan in a tweet, adding, “With such a foreign minister, who needs enemies?”

During an interview with Asia Society held in conjunction with the 72nd UN General Assembly session in New York, Asif said Hafiz Saeed, Lashkar-e-Taiba are liabilities for his country.

Earlier this month, the foreign minister had acknowledged that LeT and Jaish-e-Mohammad were the globally defunct organisations operating from Pakistan.

Referring to Asif’s statement that Nawaz had paid a political price for peace efforts with India, Imran said: “Now (it is) evident that Dawn Leaks was a deliberate attempt by PML-N to target Pakistani military at a time when it is fighting our enemies on multiple fronts.”

Their continuous targeting of Pakistani armed forces continues today as part of the Indo-US appeasement, Imran said. “No concern for Pakistani lives sacrificed,” he said in another tweet.

The PTI chief also hit out at former Premier Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Ishaq Dar for the economic condition of the country.
