RECORDER REPORT

ISLAMABAD: The Embassy of Brazil, together with Verve Events, presented to an attentive and excited audience Kamiar Rokni’s collection inspired by the liveliness of Brazil, named the “Colours of Brazil.” The event was envisioned by Alfredo Leoni, Ambassador of Brazil, and Arsalan A Khan who states that his trip to Brazil was a life changing experience, and that promoting the Brazilian culture is now a lifetime desire.

The event was the result of a project initiated in 2011 by the Brazilian embassy with the invitation to four young and talented Pakistanis to visit Brazil and experience the best of the Brazilian cultural life. Among them were Arsalan A Khan, Creative Director of Verve Events, and Kamiar Rokni, one of the most prestigious fashion designers of Pakistan. The event, held at Serena Shamadan Hall, gathered more than 400 guests from the diplomatic corps and fashion industry, along with Pakistani trendsetters. Kamiar Rokni states that Brazil is all about the “Mix” - the mix of European and African the mix of Brazilian and Japanese, the mix of urban sophistication and natural beauty these are the contrasts and collisions that especially inspired him.

Kamiar speaks about this collection, saying that - the starting point was mid-century modernism and from there we move on to Bahia and the African influence and we end with a touch of nostalgia and an interpretation of the glamour that the name Brazil evokes. The collection is supported by headpieces made in collaboration by ‘Hashim Ali’ that keep the same influences in mind and are also a nod to the Japanese culture that is very much a part of Brazil.

The music was essential to keep the upbeat tone of the evening. Traditional Brazilian music - Samba and Bossa Nova gained a new twist with electronic beats. The set-up, done by Arsalan Khan and Imtisal Zafar of Verve, also perfectly showcased the exuberance of Brazil, in a display of creativity and glamour. Furthermore, Porsche cars were parked in gleaming glory as you entered the venue. All the make-up looks were executed by Juju Haider whose inspiration was the boldness of Brazilian fashion.
