KARACHI: Karachi Stock Exchange Tuesday witnessed a volatile session as the KSE-100 Index managed to recover only one point to close at 29,095 points against 29,094 points Monday.

During the intraday trading, the 100-Index touched 29,176 highest and 28,853 lowest levels. The trading side remained on the higher side and the volumes at the ready counter moved up to 386.665 million shares from 295.573 million shares. Market capitalisation also followed suit and closed in the green zone at Rs7.009 trillion against Rs6.999 trillion.

Commenting on the market performance, analysts said the KSE-100 Index witnessed another volatile session with market volumes of 387mn shares recorded on the second day of current week. Investors switched positions as compared to Monday’s trading session with major volumes witnessed in LPCL and PACE.

They said that E&P remained lacklustre with POL & OGDC closing in red, down 2.0 percent & 1.7 percent, respectively. Strong fundamentals of the cement sector attracted the investor interest as LPCL moved up 1.7 percent leading the list of volume leaders while MLCF and DGKC also closed in the green zone, they added.

Out of total 362 active stocks, 152 touched positive side, 184 lost their worth and that of 26 remained unchanged.

Two top gainers for the day were Rafhan Maize XD, which climbed by Rs486.50 to Rs10430 and Bata (Pak) SPOT, which shot up by Rs144.90 to Rs3399.90. The top losers were Sanofi-Aventis SPOT, which lost Rs56.46 to Rs1072.80 and Philip Morris Pak, which shed Rs28.51 to Rs705.33.

Among the top 10 companies, Lafarge Pak led the list with 31m shares. It gained 20 paisa to Rs13.95; Pace (Pak) increased by nine paisa to Rs5.19 on 30m shares; and JS Bank improved by five paisa to reach Rs6.10 on 25m shares.

Jahangir Siddiqui Company shed 30 paisa to close at Rs13.04 on 24m shares; Maple Leaf Cement witnessed a gain of 99 paisa to reach Rs30.13 on 19m shares; and Bank of Punjab bagged 30 paisa to close at Rs11.17 on 19m shares.

WorldCall Telecom rose by 11 paisa to close at Rs2.95 on 18m shares; Engro Fertilizer shed 26 paisa to close at Rs70.84 on 15m shares; K-Electric stayed put at Rs6.70 on 13m shares; and NIB Bank gained nine paisa to close at Rs2.59 on 9m shares.
