Army personnel attack police station in IHK

OCCUPIED SRINAGAR: ‘Unbridled’ Indian Army personnel went on rampage in tourist resort Sonamarag in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district after entering into a brawl with some policemen who were manning the traffic there.

Eyewitnesses said scores of army personnel belonging to High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) Nilgrath were on board in their five vehicles bearing registration numbers, 091028P, 019510K, 018971M, 151614A and 019457K and they got stuck in traffic jam near Sonamarag.

“There was heavy traffic jam and in a bid to regulate the traffic some policemen from Jammu and Kashmir police took control of the road. The army personnel from HAWAS asked policemen to clear the road for them while the policemen requested them to wait till the traffic chaos is over. Some of the army men could not digest the ‘diktat’ of the cops and started abusing them. In the meantime, a cop namely Javid Ahmed (549 gbl) entered into an argument with the army men and it took an ugly turn when all of a sudden scores of HAWAS personnel came down from their vehicles and chased away policemen,” an eyewitness Ghulam Nabi said.

Reports said that Army personnel barged into police station Sonamarag and resorted to indiscriminate firing. “They fired scores of bullets and some of the bullets hit the walls of police station Sonamarag,” In Charge Station House Officer Sonamarag Irfan Ahmed Malik told CNS. A policeman from Sonamarag police station told CNS that the ‘unbridled’ army personnel thrashed all the policemen mercilessly.—NNI
