KARACHI: The Okhai Memon Jamaat (OMJ) will organise a three-day trade and consumer exhibition titled ‘Portrait’ from April 29 at Karachi Expo Centre.
Speaking at a press conference at Karachi Press Club on Monday, Abdul Waheed Memon, President, OMJ, and former president, Karachi Electronics Dealers Association, said that so far some 80 companies, including electric and electronics, food and beverages, commodities and textile, had confirmed their participation in the exhibition.
Memon enterprises from all over Pakistan and other countries like UAE, Sri Lanka, South Africa, UK, USA and Bangladesh were also participating in the exhibition, he added.
He informed that Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan would inaugurate the exhibition on April 28 at Governor’s House.
“We have booked three halls at Karachi Expo Centre for the exhibition and Hall No-3 has been designated for electric and electronics products, while special arrangements have been made for women and children that include cooking classes, entertainment program, food court and lucky draw,” he added.
He said that OMJ was established in 1880 for the welfare of society and many of its stalwarts took part in the independence struggle. “Okhai is derived from Indian port town of OKHA where major portion of the community resided,” he mentioned.
“We are organising this exhibition with an aim to generate funds and most of the income will be spent on education, as most of youngsters are unable to afford the cost of higher education,” Waheed added.
He said that the event was a follow up of the first event that was held in 2006 and this year “we have planned to make the event bigger and better”.
He hoped that government representatives, general public and business entrepreneurs would make the event a success.
Muhammad Adam, Muhammad Saleem, Abdul Razzaq, Muhammad Javed, Irfan Nisar, Muhammad Ayub, Abdul Rasheed Dildar, Arif Panjwani, Muhammad Tariq and others were also present on the occasion.
