ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Tuesday said that the national politics had now entered a critical phase.

Addressing a press conference here, he said the current wave of confrontation pervaded across the country, adding that JI was struggling for a democratic, peaceful, prosper and developed Pakistan.

He said the commission constituted by the Prime Minister to probe the alleged rigging in the general elections should investigate the entire issue within a month, while the Parliamentary Committee on Election reforms should present election reforms within 40 days.

He warned that those who are instigating marchers should not set a dangerous precedent.

Siraj said he has presented a four-point formula to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to defuse tensions between federal government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.

He said that army must remain neutral under the prevailing situation and the politicians must abandon the habit of inviting army to every matter.

“Both the federal government and PTI should show sagacity and find out a political solution without any further loss of time,” he said.

“Any mishap can happen, if political forces do not show maturity and sincerity,” the JI chief said, adding that federal government would be more responsible. He said that government should refrain from the use of power and allow political parties to hold rallies.

Siraj had rejected PTI’s decision of dissolving provincial assemblies.

The JI chief said that some opportunists were trying to exploit the differences between political forces. He said that political parties should work for the supremacy of constitution and parliament. He said that formation of electoral reform committee was a positive step, but government should have taken the decision earlier.
