KARACHI: As many as 282 MBBS and BDS students of Liaquat College of Medicine & Dentistry (LCMD) were awarded degrees at its second Convocation held here on Thursday at Expo Centre.

Sindh Minister for Health, Dr Sagheer Ahmed, Karachi University Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Muhammad Qaiser, LCMD’s Dental College Principal Prof (Dr) Navid Rashid Qureshi, LCMD and Dar-us-Sehat Hospital’s Chairman Amir Waliuddin Chishti, Vice Chairman Dr Syed Ali Farhan Razi and Liaquat Medical College Principal Dr Rashid Naseem Khan were present on the occasion.

Dr Sagheer and Dr Qaiser awarded gold and silver medals and commendation certificates among meritorious students of MBBS and BDS classes.

The recipients of gold and silver medals include Ms Saadia Javed, Ms Sidrah Javed, Ms Tahira Zainab, Hassan Rashid, Ms Saadia Asad, Muhammad Usman Ghani, Ms Saba Tabassum, Ms Sarah Khan and Ms Anum Ayaz.

Speaking as chief guest on the occasion, Dr Sagheer Ahmed said that Sindh government is determined to improve medical education and healthcare facilities in the province.

He exhorted fresh graduates to work in the under-developed cities and districts, where people are deprived of health facilities due to shortage of doctors.

Felicitating fresh MBBS and BDS graduates and their parents, the minister said that students owed their success to the institution and its teaching faculty.

Earlier, in his welcome address, Principal of LCMD, Prof (Dr) Navid Rashid Qureshi, said that the college knew its responsibility of producing best graduates who could contribute positively towards the field of medicine.

The LCMD is committed to provide best possible teaching and learning environment to its students with a teaching hospital in the shape of Dar-us-Sehat, he added.
