KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed the KMC official concerned to appear in the court and file comments on a petition calling for rehabilitation of Jahangir Park, located in Saddar.

The petitioner submitted that the Jahangir Park located in Saddar Karachi was one of oldest and historical parks of the provincial metropolis which has been neglected by the relevant authorities for last more than 16 years, and consequently the park has been turned into ruins and center of anti-social elements.

He submitted that due to delinquency of the KMC authorities the said park was being now giving an abominable look, as the grass and trees have been removed from the park while the drivers have started parking their coaches in the park.

He stated that drug peddlers were frequently roaming in the park and illegal construction by the town offices, shops and mosques were on the increase.

The petitioner submitted that the iron fence around the park has also been broken from many places, while cleanliness condition of the park is also worst as one can see garbage and waste littered everywhere in the Jahangir Park.

The court was pleaded to direct authorities concerned to immediately rehabilitate and beautify the Jahangir Park and remove encroachments in order to save the park for public recreation.

Headed by Justice Sajjad Ali Shah, a division bench of the SHC directed the KMC official concerned to appear in the court and submit replies on the petition.—PPI
