ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Monday met Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General Rizwan Akhtar at the Prime Minister’s House to discuss matters relating to national security. According to official sources, internal security and fighting against terrorism came under discussion during the meeting.

DG ISI briefed the PM on the collective security situation at the Line of Control (LoC) and the Working Boundary. He also informed him about the success and progress of the operation Zarb-e-Azb and the operation Khyber-1.

Army’s professional matters also came under discussion. PM commended ISI’s role in defending the country. Prime Minister Sharif lauded the services of ISI describing it as the country’s first line of defense against the enemies of the state.

The meeting took place ahead of PM Nawaz’s visit to Nepal where he is to attend the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (Saarc) summit. He is also scheduled to meet other leaders on the sidelines of the summit. This was the second meeting between the prime minister and DG ISI after the latter took office.—INP
